Cow Creek Road is a fantastic 8 mile long road that connects 1431 near Lago Vista to 1174 on the way to Oatmeal. The road is best driven from South to North starting at 1431. It is a fairly slow-speed road because it has many twists and turns. The road parallels Cow Creek, so the scenery is excellent. Generally, there is very little to no traffic on this road, however, if you do get stuck behind another vehicle there is nowhere to pass. We have never seen any police on the road, but there are a lot of places for them to hide.
While the pavement is in excellent condition, there is often gravel on the road that gets washed onto it after a rain. Not only can this kick up pebbles into the car behind you, but if you hit a gravel patch on a curve you can lose control. So, stay far back from any cars in front of you, and be extra careful on curves. Additionally, there are a lot of cattle guard crossings.
Overall, this is a really fun road to drive, and even though the speeds are quite low the fun is in the dynamic driving because of all of the curves and braking.
